Devington Green Jobs Workforce Development

The Devington Community Green Jobs Workforce Development Program is a pre-apprenticeship course that gets these men and women ready for the workforce by giving them the book knowledge and education in the classroom, plus hands on training. With both of these aspects working side-by-side, these students are ready and prepared for success in the construction industry earning their pre-apprenticeship, and OSHA Certification.

DCDC partners with the IMPD OK Kids Program, and other city and state agencies to provide community-based adult residential reentry services to offenders released or diverted from prison. These facilities are designed to provide structured programming with a focus on being successful as we re-enter the workforce, substance abuse, education and changing criminal behaviors. As a part of the program these men and women will have a comprehensive assessment, individual and group counseling (if needed), life-skills training, and aftercare. Ultimately, each student will be armed with everything they will need in order to succeed once they have graduated, helping each individual as they reintegrate back into their communities.

On Parole or Probation?

The DCDC works with several parole and probation officers, and do give random drug testing should the parole/probation officer request one.

Often times while on parole or probation you will have court dates that come up in the future. Let the DCDC know about these dates as we can often be of help to you in these situations, seeing you have adhered to our policies. ie: Standing up with you in court, writing letters on your behalf, inviting your officer to tour our facility, etc.

Assessment

The purpose of the DCDC assessment process is to gather information to determine an offender's current risk factors for public safety concerns and also recidivism. During an assessment, clinical staff gather data to assess the offender's current treatment needs.

Education

An important element in the DCDC continuum of care model is the emphasis that is placed on education and vocational training. Studies show that recidivism rates decline when non-reading inmates become literate or in cases where inmates earn a GED while incarcerated. (Martinez, Izenberg, 2000) DCDC has partnered with IUPUI and PURDUE University Professors. Although new educational technology may be used with students, DCDC understands that teacher-to-offender and offender-to-offender relationships in a group setting are still important to the success of the overall educational process. Certified teachers administer the educational curriculum. The classroom, although businesslike, provides an atmosphere of encouragement and positive reinforcement.
