Working for the Community

 
Devington Community Development Corporation (D.C.D.C.) has a twenty-six year history of working within the 46226 locale maintaining a close relationship with the Indianapolis Public School System (Arlington High School, Schools #78, 92, 98, 106).
D.C.D.C. is an Indiana 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation (incorporated in 1982) organized to house, oversee and administrate community organizations collaboratively for the purpose of building and revitalizing the northeast side of Indianapolis. D.C.D.C. is located at 6004 East 46th Street in the Devington Shopping Center at the corner of 46th and Arlington streets in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The geographical area target (approximately 5 square miles) in the Devington Neighborhood Stabilization Plan is bound by 56th Street on the North, Shadeland Avenue on the East, 34th Street on the South, and Fall Creek Parkway on the West.

With the Community

 
D.C.D.C. is located in the community with one of the highest crime rates, highest unemployment rates, the highest drop-out rate, and the highest foreclosure rate in the city. Devington also ranks #1 in Indianapolis in elderly and handicapped residents. Devington is one of the highest locale areas in Marion County for alcohol/drug dependency, asthma, diabetes, and bi-polar illness.

 Fact:

489 felons are released into the 46226 area annually.

 
 Fact:

The Devington Community has also become the central business district for drugs, prostitution, and other criminal forms of commerce which come with the secondary crimes of carjacking, robbery, burglary, rape and domestic violence.

 
 Fact:

The number of graduating students in the class of 2009 from Arlington High School, a school within our targeted area, was seventy-two. Five Hundred Twenty-One students entered the freshmen year together, 72 graduates (13.8%). *This leaves more than 400 adults with less than a high school diploma residing in the community, a growing trend.*

 
 Fact:

Devington Ranks #1 in Indianapolis in elderly and handicapped residents.

 
 Fact:

Major problems with storm water overflow-sewage backing up in home drains and showers. Affecting property value and sales.
