News for 2nd quarter of 2011, by Sharon Arnold

WOW…  Three years have flown by, and, together, we have made a difference in quite a few lives! For those who don't know me; I live and breathe by faith. I will never forget one day when one of our re-entry students came into my office and asked me what the meaning of faith is. I stopped for a moment and asked the young man if he knew what bungee jumping was. He promptly said oh yeah, I love it…  I said; Well, when you get up on that high platform and they place something around your ankle before you jump into an empty void, you believe it will pull you back up to the ledge you jumped from…  Well, faith is the same way; we jump out into that void of unknowing! We believe, through our faith, that God will pull us up and back into His arms. Now, many of our re-entry citizens tell others that faith is like bungee jumping.

I believe in my heart that great things happened at the DC-DC while it was located in the Devington Plaza, but, I believe we haven't seen anything yet. I do not believe our best days are behind us, they are still out here in front of us. I firmly believe that we are just coming into a new season of increase, a new season of promotion, and a new season of blessing. I also believe it is our time for vindication, a time when God will make the wrongs right.

Fyi, We left Devington Plaza the end of October in 2010, in preparation to move into our new home at School #92, with lease in hand and ready to move forward with a 50 year lease, but, our Governor put a moratorium on all empty IPS schools, to turn them into private charter schools. This threw us into a tail spin, but I always pray and ask God for this or something better. We have found the perfect building to do our programs and begin our new idea of starting our own construction/manufacturing plant and hire our newly trained students that would choose to stay and work directly with us. With my 28 years experience in construction and our wonderful 3rd generation Master Carpenter, I believe we can do great things.

We are currently looking for funding in order to buy this perfect office warehouse in the middle of our catchment area we serve. It is perfect for our re-entry program, our literacy program, our Urban Farm and the new programs currently underway.

To raise funds, we are accepting donations and selling the wooden rockers pictured here. These are made exclusively for us by a third-generation Master Carpenter with our graduates assisting, of course. Rockers are about $350 each, the price varies between models. Buy one of these beautiful pieces for your children and grandchildren to enjoy for years to come. Send eMail to discuss which model, exact price, what colors, etc.

Thanks in advance for your donation, purchase, or feedback today.
